The CLT Coordinator, whether district or local,
plays a key role in the Christian education ministries of the church. The
district CLT coordinator serves as an ex officio member of the Sunday School
Ministries Board (Manual, 1997-2001, 239.1 ). Selected by the Sunday
School Ministries Board or Education Committee, the local CLT Coordinator
shall organize, promote, and supervise regular training opportunities for
Sunday School ministries workers and the entire membership of the church
(Manual, 1997-2001, 146.9).
To build a dynamic CLT program in the local
church is essential. The following job mission blueprints and suggestions of
leadership responsibilities should help you prepare for quality minis~ to
your local church or district.
DISTRICT CLT COORDINATOR TASK DESCRIPTION
I. Preparation
A. Know and understand the Continuing Lay
Training program.
B. Read through this catalog in order to be
acquainted with the purpose of the CLT program and the certificates
offered.
C. Attend conferences and seminars on lay
training.
II. District Responsibility
A. Represent the
interests of Continuing Lay Training to the District Sunday School
Ministries Board.
B. Plan and coordinate
an annual calendar of CLT events for the district in cooperation with
the District SSM Board.
C. Prepare and submit
to the SSM Board an annual budget for lay training events on the
district.
D. Promote the CLT
program throughout the year by submitting articles and information to
the
E. Editor of the
district newsletter.
F. Promote CLT at all
district events where possible.
III. Local Church Responsibility
A. Understand the job description of local
CLT coordinators. Provide continual training for them through local and
zone workshops.
B. Keep an up-to-date list of local CLT
coordinators and communicate with them regularly.
C. Promote lay training in each local church
in the following ways:
1. Urge each local church to appoint a CLT
coordinator.
2. Provide a CLT catalog and other
CLT materials to the local CLT coordinator.
3. Keep accurate data on local church
training activities.
4. Be available to give
assistance to the local CLT coordinator about the CLT program.
IV. Other
A. Maintain a tile of the district CLT
credit reports received from the general CLT office.
B. Coordinate and promote each local church
to participate in the annual denomination-wide CLT study.
C. Periodically evaluate the
effectiveness of the CLT program on your district and work to strengthen
it.
D. Keep in close contact with the
general CLT office in Kansas City in order to be well informed about new
programs or materials.
LOCAL CLT COORDINATOR TASK DESCRIPTION
I. Preparation
A. Know and understand the Continuing
Lay Training program.
B. Read through this catalog in order
to be acquainted with the purpose of the CLT program and certificates

C. Attend conferences and seminars on
lay training.
II. Annual Planning
A. Develop a yearly training calendar and
submit it to the Sunday School Ministries Board for approval and
cooperation.
B. Meet with the Sunday School superintendent
and pastor each quarter to discuss opportunities for CLT classes in the
local church and potential teachers.
C. When CLT classes are scheduled, nominate all potential CLT teachers for
the Sunday School Ministries Board for approval.
III. Local CLT Classes
A. Publicize all CLT classes, dates, and
locations (including Dialog Series Sunday School classes, Children's and
Teen Quizzing).
B. Register all CLT classes with the general
CLT office in Kansas City at least three weeks before the course is
presented.
C. Order textbooks and materials for all CLT
classes.
D. Offer helpful suggestions to the teacher
of the CLT class.
E. Maintain a CLT class report file.
Upon completion of the class, promptly send one copy to the general CLT
office in Kansas City.
IV. Self-directed Study
A. Encourage self-directed study by all
Sunday School workers and interested church members.
B. Order CLT self-directed study materials,
including master copies of the exams from the general CLT office.
C. Send completed self-directed study score
sheets and/or evaluation forms to the general CLT office, along with $2
for each exam/evaluation to be graded.
D. Send Achievement Certificate
applications to the general CLT office upon completion of each program.
V. Record-keeping and Awards
A. Maintain accurate records of CLT classes,
class reports, and individual records of completed courses.
B. Request Achievement Certificates
and/or information about medallions tram the general CLT office.
C. Request a time to publicly recognize
those earning CLT credits, certificates, or Master Medallions.
D. Report to the local Sunday School
Ministries Board the number of CLT credits earned each quarter.
F. Submit to the Sunday School
superintendent an annual report of the CLT program and number of credits,
certificates, and Master Medallions earned.
IV. Other
A. Promote, register, and appoint a teacher
for the annual denomination-wide CLT study.
B. Encourage participation in zone, district,
regional, and denominational training events.
C. Periodically evaluate the effectiveness of
the CLT program in the local church and seek to strengthen it.
SELF-DIRECTED LEARNING PROGRAM
GETTING STARTED
You will need:

CLT Electronic Score Sheets.
Electronic score sheets, available free from the CLT office, are used to
record the answers to the exam questions. Fill in the information
requested on the score sheet. Be sure to use a No. 2 lead pencil. Send the
completed electronic score sheet to the CLT office with a $2 grading fee.
Recording Credits. As a participant
earns credit, the CLT office enters the information in a database and
returns a credit card. When the graded texts, evaluations, and credit cards
have been returned, the CLT coordinator should record the unit number(s)
and dale(s). Each church is responsible for keeping this information on
file. Request a time to present the credit cards to the participants in a
public service.
Credit Validity. CLT credits are valid
for a 1 O-year period. To determine credit validity, subtract 10 years from
the current date. CLT credits taken before that date no longer apply to
current programs.
Requesting Certificates. When a
participant has completed the requirements for a certificate, the
coordinator should fill out a CLT-22 Application for CLT Certificate form.
Fill in the unit numbers and the date each course was completed under the
certificate for which you are applying. If applying for a reading
certificate fill out the Application for CLT Reading Certificate. Mail all
completed certificate application forms to the CLT office.
REQUIREMENTS FOR SELF-DIRECTED LEARNING
To complete a self-directed study course:

Choose the program(s) in which
you have interest.

Order text(s) you wish to study
from the Nazarene Publishing House (1-800-877-0700).

Request the free self-directed
study exam(s) electronic score sheet, and/or evaluation form from the CLT
office.

Read the text and complete the
exam or evaluation.
-
Send the completed electronic
score sheet(s) or evaluation form with a $2 grading fee to the CLT office.
-
A credit card and your graded
exam will be returned to you.

Report the credit to your local
CLT coordinator.

Keep the credit card for your
records.
CLT CLASSROOM STUDY PROGRAM
GETTING STARTED
All CLT courses are available for classroom
study. Classes can meet at any convenient time, such as the Sunday School
hour, midweek services, or weekend seminar. To set up a CLT class you will
need:

CLT Texts. Choose a text
and order it from the Nazarene Publishing House at their toll-free number,
1-800-877-0700.

CLT Class Report Form.
Available free from the CLT office.
Registering Classes. To register a
class, contact the CLT office. When the class concludes, complete the Class
Report form listing the teacher first followed by the names of the students
in alphabetical order, last name first. Keep a copy for your records. Send
the original to the CLT office.
When the Class Report form is received in the
CLT office, credit for the class will be entered in the database. You will
be sent CLT Credit Cards to be filled out and presented to the participants.
(NOTE: for person taking a class is involved in a serf-directed study
certificate program, be sure to record the credit in the person's file.)
Class Time. The letters A B, or C
indicate the credit values for each course. Credit values are assigned by
the CLT office. For example, Unit 121.00 is a C level course and each
participant earns three credits. CLT course 131.00B is a B level course and
worth two credits for each participant. An A level course is worth one
credit.
REQUIREMENTS FOR CLASSROOM STUDY
TO participate in the classroom study
program:
(NOTE: No examinations are required for
class study.)

Read the textbook.

While we expect and encourage
attendance at each class session, attendance requirements may be set by
the local leader.

If sessions are missed, makeup
work may be completed as assigned by the teacher.
Denomination-wide Studies
Each year a special text is developed for
united study during February and March. If scheduling during these months is
not possible, study the course at an alternate time. This text then becomes
a permanent part of the CLT curriculum. Check with the CLT office for
current study text.
