The Year of One

 

 

Throughout history we have seen what can happen when one person stands up for what they believe. People have been set free, cultures have changed course, and history changed forever, when single individuals took the courage to stand in the face of adversity. When one person stands up, others find courage to do the same. God has given us the power, because with him we are never truly alone. He gives us the power to act. What could happen in your church, community, or Sunday Schools if one person discovered the power of one? 

Well, I can tell you what can happen--you just might discover that your church might have…. 

1 New CONVERT

  • Jesus told his disciples to "go into all the world and share the gospel"...your world is right where you live...right where your church is located.
  • The Scriptures that a person (church) that wins souls is wise...

1 Person DISCIPLED

  • Christian discipleship is a concept that was born when Jesus Christ hand-selected His first followers.
  • Jesus found 12 teachable men and He took the time to teach them about God.
  • We need churches that will take time to teach their people about Christ.

1 Person who testifies to the experience of ENTIRE SANCTIFICATION

  • We are a denomination that stresses the importance of Heart Holiness
  • Jesus said, "Be Ye Holy, for I am Holy"
  • It will transform our boards and our churches
  • The evidence of a Sanctified life will be evident in our commitment and spiritual level

A Vision for 1 New CHURCH

  • Imagine if each church decided to start a church on this district.
  • We would have over 100 churches sharing the news of Jesus Christ.
  • Why not vision 1 new church. Pray about it. Decide where you feel God may want your local church to be part of a new start.

1 Hour of PRAYER per week for your local church and district

  • What could God do in your church and Sunday School through prayer?
  • How more effective could your pastor and leadership be through prayer?
  • Why not assign a prayer leader for the year. Plan prayer meetings in homes and emphasize prayer in Sunday School.

 1 Major OUTREACH thrust for the year

  • Find ways to reach people who have never yet entered your church building.
  • Some of our churches have hosted barbeques, picnics, Military Day, Patriotic Day, VBS, etc.
  • Find ways to reach unsaved people through non-threatening events.

 1 Person CALLED to MINISTRY

  • What joy it is as a pastor to hear of a young person share about their call to ministry.
  • Pastors, preach messages on "the call" and ask your parishioners to share when they have been called.
  • There are people in your church who just need asked, prayed for and encouraged for ministry.

1 Increase in ATTENDANCE in Sunday School and Worship

  • Make it a goal to have an increase of at least one person over the previous year's attendance and to take on at least one new member.
  • Never allow a year to go by where I did not take on at least one new member.
  • How excited would your church be with an increase in attendance this year?

On 31 May 1792, William Carey in Northhampton, England shared a sermon from Isaiah 54:2-3: “Enlarge the place of your tent and let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings. Do not spare, lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes! For you shall expand to the right and to the left and your descendants will inherit the nations, and make desolate cities inhabited.”

The theme of his sermon was summarized as: Expect great things from God! Attempt great things for God!

New Providence - Pastor Mike Wilcox

We have already taken on one new member for the year and have had a 16 year old called to ministry. We have evangelistic prayer every week at different times and places. God is moving in our church!
